Thursday 24th October saw the second full meeting of the Uredale Community Partnership in Masham Town Hall. It is designed to bring together all the key parts of our community to help improve local services.  The Partnership stretches from Masham to Ripley and Dallowgill Moor to Cundall.

The partnership grows in scope with each meeting.  It includes all 4 local NYC councillors, parish councillors, businesses, community organisations, health and emergency services and many others.

The meeting reviewed several hundred pages of local plans, proposals and reports published over the past 6 years.  Each report is the result of consideration by a group of local leaders, residents and external consultants. They included the Rural Commission Report, the Ripon Neighbourhood Plan, the Ripon Renewal Report and a Future Towns Report.  Each County Councillor then briefly summarised the make-up of their communities, using census information, and key issues needing action.

The meeting concluded that there are many common themes to these reports, but sadly little progress on these themes.  There is clear evidence of the need for action in a number of specific areas.  These areas included:

  1.     Transport
  2.     Connectivity
  3.     House Building (focussed on skills and training)
  4.     Community cohesion events
  5.     Culture and green space
  6.     Access to services

The next step is to identify what we can practically do at a local level to make a difference in these areas and to bring forward proposals for specific projects before the next meeting in the new year.
